True analog, true stereo echo! Extended clock range, sound explorer's echo.
Almond colored powder coat with white oak accents. Orange and warm white LEDs.
The Echo-1 contains six 4096-stage long-delay BBD chips. A toggle switch allows selection of stereo (three BBDs x2 channels "12K") or a longer delay in Mono (all six BBDs for one channel "24K").
The left and right channels echo repeat speeds (clock rates) can be synchronized, or run independently, all while preserving true stereo audio.
Extras include Vibrato, which can be set to "Sync" for standard vibrato, or set to "Inverted", to form a stereo Auto-Panner, all through our rich sounding Transconductance VCAs. There's also a Tremolo, a type of pitch-shifting modulation, also controlled by LFO.
IMPORTANT 1! The Echo-1 does not contain a compander (compressor and expander), as found in most other analog echo machines. That means it's going to be noisy when lower clock speeds are selected. This is to save space, cost, and allow more of the raw BBD sound. Should you desire expander type noise suppression, one can build it from a selection of Eurorack modules (envelope follower + VCA + mixer). Or hold out for the forthcoming Echo-2, which'll contain a programmable Downward Expander based on the legendary R70M - but no ETA on the Echo-2 yet.
IMPORTANT 2! Like all of our instruments, the Echo-1 does not contain friendly "guardrails" to contain the clock speeds to normal rates. We do this because it's fun: allows extended low frequency clock range, the lowest 10% of the clock faders. There, the extreme low clock speed results in glicthes, artifacting, aliasing, even down to ring modulation below nyquist, and pure high frequency noise chaos. If that's not desired, simply don't go all the way down on the clock range. Echo-1 is not intended to be another "safe" and boring echo machine. We allow access to the Left and Right clocks' frequency controls via euro-rack compatible CV inputs - have fun!
